Luck of the Stylish: Our Favorite Green Yarns and Patterns

Green is one of my favorite colors, so I knit with green all year. But there’s something special about knitting or crocheting with green yarns around St. Patrick’s Day.

We’ve collected some of our favorite St. Patrick’s Day green yarns, plus St. Patrick’s Day crochet and knitting patterns. Dig those green yarns out of your stash and plan time to crochet or knit green this year. Here’s to a very lucky spring!

Lucky clover lariat scarf

Knit green and wrap yourself in lucky clovers on St. Patrick’s Day and I guarantee no one will pinch you! I’d use this St. Patrick’s Day crochet pattern even after the holiday is over, crocheting a clover or two to attach to cording for a year-round clover necklace. After all, why should we only be lucky on St. Patrick’s Day?

This green yarn is on my wishlist for spring. The little flecks of blue and white make the green yarn even more intriguing. Wouldn’t this be a pretty sweater or even a clutch? I have a feeling anything I knit or crochet with this yarn will stick around long after St. Patrick’s Day.

Shamrock cardigan

The lace panels on the front of this cardigan are to die for, especially if you’re looking for some St. Patrick’s Day good luck. Even though this cardigan is named after the shamrock, you can wear it any time of year that short sleeves are appropriate.

Bluprint has plenty of tweed yarns similar to the Good for Ewe Claddagh that designer CBKnits used here. Try Rowan Felted Tweed in Avocado for a DK weight option or Tahki Donegal Tweed Yarn in Sage for a worsted-weight yarn.

Cascade Jewel Yarn in Highland Green

This 100% peruvian wool will keep you cozy — even if you’re not lucky enough to be hanging out on the Irish coast this St. Patrick’s Day. (Sigh. I wish!) This yarn is chunky-weight, so any project you make with it will work up quickly.

Rambling scarf kit

Rambling scarf

St. Patrick’s Day weather can be pretty unpredictable since it’s during a seasonal transition, so keeping this scarf on hand for the holiday is probably a good idea. Bluprint’s kit comes with the pattern, plus Spud & Chloe sweater yarn to make the scarf. You can pick the color, but anyone who doesn’t want to get pinched should seriously consider the Turtle color shown here.

I’m not a St. Patrick’s Day green purist. In other words, I think any shade of green counts as lucky on the holiday. But if you don’t want to take any chances with your luck, this kitchen cotton in Snap Pea is a good choice for you!

Crocodile stitch bag

As if crocodile stitch wasn’t already awesome enough on its own, pair it with a flower, a chain and some pretty green yarn and you’ll have yourself a St. Patrick’s Day crochet pattern that’ll be the envy of everyone. Any of our featured green yarns could work for this. Just be sure to change your crochet hook size if you use a heavier weight yarn than the one used here — and remember that using a heavier weight yarn will also make the dimensions of the finished bag larger.
