Hello Sherry,

Thank you for contacting us.

To achieve an additional 4″ to the waist circumference, you can add 1″ to the side seam of the front pattern and back. The front and back are cut on the fold, so by adding 1″ to each side seam, you will be able to achieve 4″ total extra circumference in the waist. If there are any waist darts in the pattern, you can also decrease the amount of the waist darts, which will decrease the amount you need to add at the side seams.

Once you bring the side seam line the necessary distance out, true the new side seams back into the original pattern line above and below the waist.

For further information or assistance, please chat, email, or call Customer Service.

Sincerely,

Sarah

I have a vintage pattern that is only one size. All measurements are fine except for the waist. I need to add 4 inches. This is a project for my granddaughter at school and I’ve tried watching everything I know how to fix just the waist of a shirt and I can’t find anything. Getting desperate.

The measurements on the pattern envelope are the body measurements and the measurements on the pattern tissue are the garment measurements, the difference being the ease in the garment.
