Urban model shoot

Project Description

What is exciting or interesting to you about your photo(s)? It was my first 'real' photoshoot in an abandonned factory with a model. Also the first time that I've just my trigger-set and a lightstand and umbrella. It was a fun afternoon and I've made some great shots; curious as to know what you think of them.

What you will need

  • Equipment: Nikon D3100 Nikkor 50 mm f/1
  • 8 and Sigma 70-200 f/2
  • 8 Yongnuo YN-468II flash Yongnuo YN-603N3 triggerset Lightstand Westcott 45" umbrella First shoot with this set
  • and a new (and exciting) location.

great shot. nice light on the hair. maybe need an assistant to hold a round reflector to brighten her face a bit so it stands out. must have been a very difficult shoot. did you get your exposure for the background first and go down a stop or 2 on it and then add the fill flash to make her pop and separate from the back?

Hi salsaguy, thanks for your remarks! I did have an assistant (my wife) holding up a reflector; otherwise i woudn't have seen her face at all. This is more a 'lucky shot' then well figured out shot... The flash is on a tripod right behind the model and I've taken that out in Photoshop. It took me 3 shots to get to this result (changing the power of the flash and the distance to the model). I'm still not getting the system 'down' to measure first the background and then go those two steps 'down'; maybe you can help?
