Sunlighting is everything

Two photos taken the same time of day from my backyard deck. My camera was set on 'aperture priority', set at F/11 for greater DOF and sharpness. One was taken with sun at my back, around 8 o'clock in the morning and than I turned around and took the second shot facing the sun. The sun was off to my right to avoid the direct sun light. Neither photo was retouched. Notice the richness of the photo taken with the sun at my back, (back lit) oppose to the photo with the sun in front of me (front lit). Thanks Neil
