Rockers at Night

Project Description

What is exciting or interesting to you about your photo(s)? I shoot bands a lot; mostly on-stage without flash. Sometimes, though, they want posed shots and here Neil's techniques have worked great. At first I used a 24-inch Lastolite, but then I found I got pretty good results with the little 8-incher. The only problem is that I need to find an assistant--well, finding one isn't so hard, but directing one is a whole new skill. Still, in general I'm pleased with the results--and so are my rocker friends.

What you will need

  • I use a Canon 600EX-RT as commander on the camera (which is a 5D3) and another inside a Lastolite softbox. TTL mode
  • since we're moving fast
  • and of course
  • a VAL to hold the softbox.

Q&A with rodrick3115365

Gmenz asked:
really nice this has style ...
rodrick3115365 answered:
Thanks. Now that it's done, I see all the flaws or areas that could have been improved, but it was one of my first attempts at balancing the sunset with an off-camera strobe. Having a gorgeous young singer like Alaina Blair makes it easy to overlook my errors, though!
Huntergl asked:
Great shoots and good use of of camera flash. Love the edgy look in the other photos.
rodrick3115365 answered:
Thanks. You've got some beautiful landscapes; I've been thinking about that Rick Sammons course, and I'll have to give it a try when I get time.
