Basic Skills Necessary:

  • You should love your sewing machine and know how it works (we're talking a basic straight stitch here).
  • You should have a knowledge of basic sewing terms (like knowing that darts are more than a weapon or a game).

Pattern Description:

This PDF pattern and tutorial that will take you from start to finish in creating your own apron from fabrics that you choose. There are lots of detailed pictures and instructions to guide you along.

This ePattern includes:
*Materials and supplies lists
*Professionally Drafted - printable pattern tiles
*14 pages of step-by-step layout, cutting, and sewing instructions
*Marking instructions
*66 full color instructional pictures
*BOTH customary unit (yards, inches, etc.) and metric unit (centimeters) measurements
*ALSO INCLUDES additional instructions for making an a-line half apron...it's almost like getting two patterns for the price of one!

This is a vintage inspired full apron with a sweetheart neckline (it can be made with or without the sweetheart accent band), a dart-fitted top (to curve with your curves) and a figure-flattering A-line skirt that measures 20" (51cm) from waist to hem. It features waist ties that can either be tied in a back bow, a front knot, or a front bow. The neckties are fully-adjustable so the apron will fit the way you want it to.

This apron is functional as well as cute. It has a rounded patch pocket (perfect for a recipe card, your MP3 player, or your cell phone). There is an optional towel loop that you can put at the waistline to keep your towel handy so you can dry your hands on your towel and not make a mess of your cute new apron.

This apron design was tested on a variety of shapes and sizes and would be categorized as a Small/Medium (approximate off the rack dress sizes 2 to 12). It was made to fit the following measurements:
Bust - Between 30" and 38" (76cm and 96cm)
Waist - Between 22" and 32" (56cm and 81cm)
Hips - Between 30" and 38" (76cm and 96cm)

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Small/medium (approximate off-the-rack size 2 to 12).

Materials:

  • 1 yard fabric for bib and skirt
  • 1 yard fabric for ties, waistband, and pocket
  • (For half-apron option, you will need 3/4 yard for skirt and 5/8 yard for ties and pocket)
  • Thread to match

You Will Also Need:

  • A good pair of scissors
  • Sewing pins
  • A ruler
  • A marking pen or pencil
  • A "dull-pointed" object (anything like a crochet hook, a chopstick, a very dull pencil, etc. - This will be used to make nice points at the ends of your neck ties and waist ties).
  • A straight long skinny object - a 1/2" to 3/4" dowel works best, but if you don't have a dowel you can use a thick crochet hook or even a long handled spoon for turning your ties.
