Once upon a time a budding artist and crafter decided to teach some sunny little art courses to other people also interested in creating stuff. After a few happy months of playing with ideas, creating works, crafting, studying, printmaking and generally making a good old mess, in 2003, Magenta Sky was born, and that budding artist was Susan Yeates.
You've heard of blue sky thinking? Well, here we believe in 'Magenta Sky Thinking.' Think creatively, always look to learn new things and make, make make!
We just love making ‘stuff’ and have expanded from teaching just art and printmaking to other techniques such as sewing, crochet and other creative projects! Sharing our knowledge, ideas and motivating others to be creative is what we are all about!
We gain inspiration from a huge variety of sources… the world at large, fabric shops, exhibitions, car boot sales, photographs, other artists, magazines, books, people and places. Sometimes even a word or phrase will provide inspiration for a sewing project to make, a print to produce or even a workshop to teach!
We have loads of creative stuff available on our website www.magenta-sky.com. This includes a blog, free downloads, video tutorials, images, courses, patterns and much much more!
Every Christmas, as part of a regular 'sewing bee' that I go to, we make each other a secret santa present out of a bag of scraps including fabric, ribbon, buttons and thread. Last year I was handed some gold thread, 2 small scraps of silk, a piece of wide ribbon and a large button... I was inspired!
So here's what I made: a funky, sparkly patchwork star perfect to hang on your Christmas tree or around the home. They are also great for using up those scraps that linger in your sewing box!
This pattern comes from the book Make Your Own Christmas Tree Decorations by Susan Yeates. Available now on:
