Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Sew and press darts and seams
  • Make button holes (or figure out how via your sewing machine manual)

Pattern Description:

I was inspired to design the Edith blouse or dress after seeing some pictures of my paternal grandmother (Farmor, in Danish) from the mid '50s. I loved the collar style, but this dress is more fitted through the body. I named the pattern Edith after my grandmother.

Edith is a mid 50s-style inspired " but absolutely timeless - blouse or shirtdress, with softly rounded collar and lapels. Edith is very flattering to all body shapes. She gently skims the curves, and you can wear her anywhere for any occasion " with out ever getting tired of her company.

Wear the blouse with skinny jeans or trousers for work or play and the knee length dress for a night out or for shopping, depending on your fabric choice. For hourglass or pear body shapes " wear a belt with the dress to emphasise your tiny waist.

The kimono sleeved Edith has back shoulder darts and waist darts at front and back as well as bust darts " giving a fitted, but not overly fitted look.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • The Edith Blouse and Dress pattern is a multisized pattern with all sizes from B34 (Bust = 80 cm/311/2")to B46 (Bust = 104 cm/41") included.
  • This pattern was drafted for a size B-bust (like most European patterns). That means that there is no more than 4.5 cm difference between the high bust measurement and the full bust measurement. If you wear a larger bust size, you should do a Full Bust Alteration. (link to article provided in pattern)

Materials:

  • The Edith Blouse Dress is designed for medium weight woven fabric. The red dotted version is made in poplin and the dress is made in chambray.
  • For the blouse you need 95 cm (1 yard) of 140 cm wide fabric and for the dress you(tm)ll need 240 cm (2.5 yard) of 140 cm wide fabric (All though you can probably get away with less if you use non-directional fabric).

You Will Also Need:

  • Thread and suitable needle.
  • Interfacing for the under collar, the back neckline facing and the front edge facing.
  • Optional: Bias tape for a bias tape hem facing.
