Any suggestions to keep it stiff to hold shape? I used a mid weight interfacing and calico cottons.

DEAR WHAT CAN DO INSTEAD, JUST A THOUGHT FOR THIS IS WHAT I PLAN TO DO WHEN I CAN GET TO IT, I AM GOING TO BUY A HEAVIER FABRIC WITH MLTE BODY TO IT. IT COULD BE HEAVY WOVEN, MAYBE EVEN A TWILL WITH A VERY BEAUTIFUL PRINT DESIGN, VERY ELEGANT OR VERY CUTE GIRLIE CUTE FOR LADIES ARE NEVER TO OLD TO LIKE GIRLIE ITEMS LIKE THESE KIND OF THINGS, NOT SAYING AT ALL WEARING WHAT IS NOT AGE APPROPRIATE, FOR TOO OLD WEARING TOO YOUNG JUST MAKES A PERSON NOT LOOK RIGHT-LEAVE THE YOUNG TO THE YOUNG FOR WHO IS NOT REAL YOUNG ALREADY THEIR DAYS-NOW A FUN LADIES SLEEP-OVER THAT IS WHEN AGE DOES NOT MATTER AND CAN BE SO SO GIRLIE AND DO ALL THE GIRLIE SLEEP-OVER THINGS-POPCORN, DARLING PRETTY CUTE PYJAMAS AND DORIS DAY MOVIES AND EVERYONE HAS TO WEAR ONLY CUTE PYJAMAS NOT RISQUE FOR THIS IS GIRLIE NIGHT. OR I AM THINKING DOING MINE, I MIGHT HAVE TO DO ME A COUPLE OR FEW, I WAS GOING TO SUGGEST UPHOLSTERY FABRIC WITH BEAUTIFUL PRINT DESIGNS MAKING IT LIKE A CARPET BAG TYPE. FOR THOSE THAT ALWAYS WONDERED OR NEVER SEEN NOR HEARD OF A CARPET BAG, IT IS A TRAVELING BAG ACTUALLY ORIGINALLY WHEN FIRST CREATED WAS MADE FROM REAL CARPET FABRIC-ABSOLUTELY TRUE AND GOES WAY BACK-FOR ANY OF THOSE SUGGESTED FABRICS WILL GIVE IT A LOT MORE BODY NO NEED FOR INTERFACING OR HEAVY INTERFACING. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE WHAT YOU END UP CHOOSING TO DO TO GET IT TO HAVE BODY, STANDING UP NO LIMP TO IT AT ALL WITH YOUR CHOICE OF RESOLVING YOUR DELIMMA AND PLEASE TAKE A PICTURE I WOULD LOVE TO SEE WHICH WAY YOU WENT WITH IT. THE LORD BLESS YOU AND FILL YOU WITH ALL OF HIM MAKING ALL THINGS OF YOUR NEEDS ALL NEW AS IT IS WRITTEN HE MAKES ALL THINGS NEW WHETHER PHYSICAL OR BROKENNESS, WHAT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO MAN(KIND) IS NOT IMPOSSIBLE TO THE LORD, ANYTHING AND ALL THINGS', FOR I MYSELF AND MY BROTHER AND OTHERS IN OUR LIVES HE HAS DONE WHAT NOT ANY DOCTORS COULD DO AND HE DID IT COMPETE AND NEVER RETURNED AND FILL YOU WITH ALL HIS PEACE AND GIVES TO YOU LIFE MORE ABUNDANTLY. I AM EXCITED TO SEE YOUR FINISHED BOX POUCH. SO OKAY DEAR GO GET STITCHEN, FOR I AM ITCHEN TO SEE YOUR FINISHED STITCHEN! HAVE FUN FOR SOON IT WILL BE DONE. AND YES THOSE TWO SENTENCES WERE PURPOSELY PLAY WITH WORDS. ELYANA-MEANS GOD HAS ANSWERED- AND AS I SAID LOTS, LOTS SO MANY MANY TIMES HE HAS DONE WHAT HE SAYS HE WILL DO.

Hi! Love your pattern. Will make quite a few of these. Do have a question though: on the last step of page 4, do you sew just the short sides of the outside and lining or do you stitch all around? Once done, do you invert them back to original position? (I lied :),
have 2 questions). Hope someone can help. Love these pouches.

This is a pretty good tutorial, but you have to read carefully. I prefer point form to paragraphs for directions, so I made a few mistakes as I TLDRd. I would add one tip: hand sew your zip closed at the top before you start sewing things to it. It makes it much easier to keep everything lined up.

I'm delighted to have finished this ... Never seen in a zip before and I'm not that hot with a machine. It looks great. Only instruction I got wrong was the fact that I should have only sewn the bottom seams initially ...was easy enough to resolve though :0) Thank You!

It happened to me too, it took me a while to understand what I had to do on this step. It's a good pattern though. It would help to have more pictures of the details. I'm sure I will make a lot of these pouches!

Yes the tab error, then everything else. I was able to make the pouch through extreme frustration and trial and error. There is a you tube video showing how to make a boxie pouch so I follows those instructions. Oh well

I just completed making a bag with this tutorial. There are several problems with the tutorial. First, on the "supplies needed" section, the fact that you are supposed to use interfacing on the tabs is left out. Second, the size given to cut the fabric for the tabs is wrong. Using what is given, the tabs are WAY too small. The tab fabric pieces need to be cut 2" x 3" each. They work perfectly when cut this size, using the given instructions. There are several spots where clear and precise directions are left out and the photos don't really show what to do. You just have to kind of guess and hope it's right. If you can guess your way correctly through these spots, the bag turns out perfectly.

With all the comments about the tabs, I'm wondering why the tutorial author hasn't fixed it yet.

Hmm, I'm still stumped on the tabs. This is my 2nd project btw. I cut them 2 x 3 as suggested, folded in half so short ends meet, opened then folded short ends toward the center. After all is said and done I get a tab that's 1.5" wide x 1" tall. It seems big, what am I missing?

jpwaffles on craftsy.com

Got it. The photo in the tutorial shows folding toward the center while viewing the backside of your fabric. This made me think that first fold was just to create a marker of where the center was.

Thank you for the link. I've bookmarked it so that I can also add a small handle for my granddaughter's bag. I don't think she would have use for the clasp and a handle is a great alternative.

1. Tab problem: I cut these at 2" x 3" so I had something to grip while I sewed them down. (no interfacing either). 2. Try sewing the gussets at 1.5" instead of at 2". My homedec outer fabric was so stiff, it was difficult to sew those gussets.
3. match your out fabric weight to your lining weight. Overall, this was a well-written free tutorial. It turned out as I expected. Those gussets can be done by a beginner but you need to read the directions carefully.

The pattern calls for two 1 by 3 inch pieces for the pull. I believe that it's an error as I did the math from the PDF and saw that the original is a 2 by 3 inch piece. This will really help save fifteen minutes of WTF during the beginning construction. :D

I made this last night. I agree with other posters that you need to cut the tabs larger. Pattern was okay, if you hadn't made bags before it would have been quite difficult. I am disappointed with the lack of structure. My bag will only look good when it is stuffed. I would use fusible fleece or soft and stable instead of light interfacing if I made it again.

I am having the same trouble as you are. I think that to get the tabs to look like the pattern example pouch, they need to be cut to 2 x 3" rather than 1 x 3" and then follow the directions as written.
