Basic Skills Necessary:

  • circular knitting
  • Decreasing (k2tog)
  • increasing (make one)
  • slipped stitch in two colors (easy!)
  • seaming (underarms only)

Pattern Description:

Another perfect piece for spring, the Yukiya Pullover features round yoke construction, elbow-length sleeves, and princess seams, which combine to give it a feminine feel. Worked in three colors, it showcases bands of alternating color and texture. The patterning is achieved by slipping stitches rather than stranding (as in fair isle), making the sweater a great project for people working their way up to stranded color knitting. The stitch patterns have short repeats and are easy to memorize, and with no long floats, tensioning is not an issue. Instructions are both written and charted. The pattern has been professionally tech edited to reduce the possibility for error.

The sample is worked in Shalimar Yarns Paulie, a luxurious blend of merino wool, silk, camel, and cashmere, in a fingering weight. Paulie comes in a beautiful array of colors.

gauge
Stockinette gauge is taken after blocking, using smaller needle. It may be necessary to go up a needle size to achieve the correct gauge in French Weave and Woven Dots patterns.

28 sts, 51 rnds equal 4" / 10 cm in French Weave.

construction
The sleeves and body are worked individually from the hems to the armhole. Underarm stitches are bound off or placed on waste yarn to be grafted later, depending on preference. The body and sleeves are then joined together on one needle and the yoke is worked circularly. The underarms may be seamed or grafted using kitchener stitch. No other finishing is required.
