Dying for a Catch

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I'm most proud of the fact this project won the Martha Stewart contest :) What advice would you give someone starting this project? Hone your papercutting skills first with simple designs that can be mounted on styrofoam inserts with craft wire. Use search engines for classic Halloween designs such as black cats, witches, bats or owls if you don't have an idea in mind for your project. Watch for craft store sales of artifical pumpkins and stock up for future use. Remember that artificial pumpkins can be painted and/or glittered - but you have to use battery-operated tealights in them - no real flames!

What you will need

  • This artificial pumpkin was carved with an X-acto knife
  • then a paper cut skeleton
  • fish and pier were added. The skeletons were covered in glow-in-the-dark glitter; the fishing pole was a dwarf lemon tree branch painted black and strung with white thread. Background was scrapbook paper highlighted with more glow-in-the-dark paint. This project won the MarthaStewart.com Halloween contest as best craft project entry.
