Project Description

What type of piece is this? Painting Share a little about the materials, processes and techniques used to create this piece. acrylic paints with gel medium, using a wet palette, built up with many layers over an under-painting on a toned background What are you most proud of? I really like how the window molding turned out. I had a great deal of difficulty with all of the fabric. I plan on doing another painting and trying this technique again. I really think it is a wonderful way to capture light. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Like Micah said in the instructions take time to build up layers. Don't get discouraged when your own layers go through a stage of not looking so great. They will look better and better as you build up the paint.

beginners luck i think- thank you!!
Sunlit asked:
What color was your toned background? I like the soft pinkish tone to your finished painting. That is the tone I hope to attain with my own project. It's soft and feminine. Nicely done.
leilei12 answered:
Thank you! I did use a soft pink background. My source photo had quite a bit of pink in it and i wanted to compliment the skin tones of the child. I have been using background colors that work with the source photo instead of creating an obvious mood the way Micah did. It isn't a realistic way of doing a painting either but it does lend a bit more realism to the painting. I think more of a romantic quality. Good Luck with your piece, I hope you will post! I love seeing everyone's work.
