"Standing Guard"

Project Description

Share a little about the materials, processes and techniques used to create this piece. "Standing Guard" is a painting done by me. It is done with Golden, Utrecht, and Liquitex acrylics on an 8X10 masonite panel. I used gel medium for the first time for the foreground snow. I also used a fan brush for the first time to create the foliage on the tree. I got the picture of the dog from a book. My wife said it looks just like her border collie "Butch" she had as a child on the farm growing up. I found a suitable frame in my collection of frames and it seems to do it justice. I have enjoyed Susan Stillman's class and looking forward to an opportunity to take another. I am an 68 year-old amateur who has been painting for almost two years. I am donating it to a silent auction in Baltimore to raise funds for cancer research. Is the piece for sale? No What are you most proud of? The border collie and the one foreground sheep. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Take a Craftsy art class, preferably from Ms. Stillman!
