Project Description

What type of piece is this? Painting Share a little about the materials, processes and techniques used to create this piece. I use artist quality oil paints on canvas board, and start with a very loose wash of colour, with which I determine the various colour regions within the portrait. In this case, I lay down a warm base for the face itself, followed by a cooler colour for the background. I pay close attention to marking the portrait out, ensuring the proportions and all other spacial elements are correct, before I proceed with any real painting. By doing this, it means I can paint cleanly and decisively, without having to 'mud mix' colours on the canvas itself. This gives an overall purity and freshness to the finished piece. I work quickly but carefully, and usually aim to finish in one sitting, resulting in a portrait with intricate details, yet a loose, painterly finish. Is the piece for sale? No
