Mermaid Bowl - Hand-Built Coiled Pottery

Project Description

What are you most proud of? The fact that I am new at working with clay and this was only my second coiled-pottery project, and it turned out so nicely. What advice would you give someone starting this project? I am fairly new at working with clay. This coiling technique is a great way to get started on pottery work as it is not difficult and takes a lot less practice than working on a pottery wheel. Coiling is done either by hand or in a clay extruder. I used an extruder. This bowl was not very difficult. You will see, in the last photo, before the bowl was glazed, that I blended the inside bottom seams together to help the coils stick together and to give the bowl more stability. I made the starfish freehand and attached it after all my coils were made.
