Inspired by the Shape

Project Description

What are you most proud of? That I had a quirky idea and just had fun running with it :) What advice would you give someone starting this project? Inspiration can come from funny places :) In this case, the perfectly round, spherical shape of the pumpkin instantly reminded me of the shape of the head of my favorite character from Comedy Central's cartoon series, South Park. From there, I simply ran with it! While the cut line for a jack-o-lantern's lid is usually just functional, by lowering the line (and increasing the size of the lid), it became a design element, forming the brim of the cap. The cap = the lid. A little blue paint and glued on pumpkin seeds further distinguish the cap from the face. The pompom was formed by cutting out the pumpkin stem and inverting it in place. After the eyes and mouth were carved, they were enhanced with a black Sharpie. Black cardstock was cut to shape and glued on to form the eyebrows. When taking pictures of your project, use better lighting (or a tripod) for better results than I obtained :) I think that is my one regret of this project -- that I didn't take a better picture of it.

  • pumpkin carving tools
  • Krylon all surface paint for the cap
