Batik

Project Description

What are you most proud of? I was living in Malaysia and I loved the Craft Complex near my home. I would take my family there any chance I got. We could spend hours. We would always make the most amazing batik gifts that we gave to the rest of our family. I am most proud of the fact that every visitor we had during our 3 year posting there had a chance to try this local Malaysian craft. Everyone surprisingly enjoyed the craft project and they all turned out fantastic! What advice would you give someone starting this project? We were lucky enough to be able to go to craft center where they helped us with the hot wax. The wax is hot and needs to be applied to the cloth by an adult.

Q&A with Quadmom99

Julie Draws asked:
Very nice, this looks like alot of fun!
Quadmom99 answered:
Thank you Julie - it was!
How I craft asked:
Looks great! I learned in grade school and am now planning to start batiking again. I have found a lot of new to me techniques that I want to experiment with. Have you used any bath dying, salting, or something new that I can learn? I started with tub dyeing a piece, light to dark, waxing over areas as you wanted that color, then ironing out the wax. I plan to try boiling it to determine which I like best.... Any other advice?
Quadmom99 answered:
Thanks! It was so much fun! Your other techniques sound like fun! Mine was very basic. I would like to try these other processes too. Thanks for the suggestion!
