What are you most proud of? I had several challenges doing this course. Starting from the kids' school exam, school holiday, internet problem, and of course, the challenges in doing the course itself! It took me less two weeks to finish 2/3 of the shawl, then, I had to put it in the drawer to do everything else except knitting.. Six months later, life calmed down and I picked up the shawl again and continued the course. This shawl is far from perfect.. First, I wasn't confident enough to use a luxury yarn in my first attempt of the shawl. I haven't used wool-based yarn often enough to be familiar with the feel of knitting with one. I decided to use a wool-acrylic, which is locally produced and I have used it before. Turned out that it wasn't the best yarn for the project.. I ran out yarn on the few last rows of the Planet Stitch (I knew I was running short, and was hoping the yarn would last until I completed the second Plasma Stitch, but it didn't). The yarn shop was out of stock for the colour I wanted. So, I had to choose a different colour that wouldn't ruin the project.. I was so glad when my sister-in-law and my mother-in-law told me that the colour combination looked very nice.. Then, when I was doing the Nova Edging (based on the picture chart, due to the slow internet connection), I knew something was not right, because as I was doing the 25th edge, I had only done 2/3 of the shawl! When I finally could watch the course video, I realised that when I printed the course material, the printer ink must've been running low, because all the 's1kw k2tog psso' looked like 'ssk'! (silly me, I didn't think to read the written chart) I ended up with more edging than I should, and they are smaller than they are meant to be.. I was glad when my husband said that the shawl looked nice and I didn't need to rip it.. I paid more attention to the edging than the centre of the shawl, while blocking it, as pushing the centre to be straight would make the edging curl too much. I think came out alright, though.. The biggest challenge for me in knitting this shawl is actually the Plasma Stitch.. While the stitches were on the circular cord, the multiple wraps kept getting on top of each other, making it hard to slide the stitches along the cord towards the tip of the needle.. I couldn't find a way to overcome the challenge, so I just did it the best I could.. There might be some other mistakes that I didn't notice, but, I still don't notice it, so.. I am very happy with myself that I finished the project, and that the shawl looked really nice. However, I am going to make another one with a different type of yarn and hoping for the better result. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Be confident! Don't give up! You can do it!
