Project Description

What are you most proud of? The dogs look almost real. What advice would you give someone starting this project? When using feather yarn it can be difficult stitching the parts together, as the yarn doesn't slide easily. I cut the feathery bits off on the bit of yarn that I use to sew the pieces together.

What you will need

  • US 6 / 4.0 mm / UK 8
  • Yarn: ModaVera PRIMAL
  • white
  • grey and black. The yarn is incredibly soft and cool to touch. Can't stop cuddling the dogs. Other materials: Glass Safety Eyes
  • Safety Nose (bought online on Etsy); Cat collars fitted with "Made with Love" tags or bells.

Q&A with GypsyLulu

artistikim asked:
Adorable! Did you do any trimming around the eyes to get the shaping? (the one on the right looks like your profile picture.)
GypsyLulu answered:
Yes, if the fur/eyelash yarn is long, I do a bit of trimming around/between the eyes. I also trim the muzzle to a nice round shape. Currently knitting another dog(s), one looks even more like my dog in the profile picture. Will post them here when completed. Love this pattern.

Hello, just wanted to say how wonderful your knitted sheepdogs are. My granddaughters would love them. Am I able to purchase the patterns. Kind regards Diane
GypsyLulu answered:
Thanks Diane, yes, they are adorable. I bought the pattern here: www.craftsy.com/pattern/knitting/toy/pocket-puppy/46852. I adjusted the pattern slightly to achieve the coloured coat by knitting half the body in black, the other half in white. The back legs have white toes, which was a little fiddly, as I ended up with 3 lots of yarn to achieve this. But the legs could also be all one colour. The main thing is to get a suitable yarn. I have not been able to source this yarn again. But have found a similar one at www.yarn-paradise.com/supersoft-fur-yarn I buy all my yarns there now, as we don't get many yarn supplies in Australia. Have fun!!!
