The center ridge of stitches is done by knitting (or purling) thru the back loop. There is a yarnover increase on each side of the center stitch which is done on the right side of the fabric (not the purl side). The "v"- shape is done by alternating a knit thru the back loop with a purl on the right side . On the wrong (purl) side it is a knit and purl thru the back loop series. Hope this helps!
