Duvino Pattern

Project Description

What are you most proud of? The joins are unnoticeable to the casual observer and the vine continues uninterrupted throughout the finished piece. What advice would you give someone starting this project? Check your work frequently. It's easy to get your colors mixed up. If you don't check your work, the mistake won't become obvious until the subsequent row had been worked. That's not a big deal for the wristbands but it isn't fun on the larger pieces! Pay attention to Alasdair's advice on the joins: 1) Tug the stitch before the join and tug again to tighten after the NEXT stitch , 2) Alasdair's method for weaving in the bind-off tail makes the first part of the weave look like a stitch in the bind-off row. It's really quite elegant! Be sure to view that part of the class right before you start weaving in the ends. Swatch. While I think it's very much worth it, double-knitting is a lot of work. And Alasdair has a knitting style that is tighter than most Continental knitters can achieve without hand cramps, even after going down in needle size. My gauge with similar yarn but smaller needles (#4) resulted in slightly taller but siginificantly wider stitches! So, swatch, adjust, and swatch some more!
