Q&A with Abby Arner

lindakowen asked:
How did the gauge work out with this yarn? Did you use size 6 needles? I'm doing this kit with highland sport, but would like to use merino for a shawl for my sister.
Abby Arner answered:
My gauge was 24 stitches over 4 inches when blocked in garter stitch, and I used size 6 needles. I used the Cloudborn Superwash Merino Sport Twist yarn that came with the project kit. The pattern's gauge calls for 11 stitches and 19 rows = 2 inches in garter stitch. Hope this helps!
lindakowen asked:
Hi, Abby, one more question (I'm in the home stretch of this project). What blocking method did you use? I wet-blocked my highland wool shawl, and that worked well, but the merino I'm working on now seems stretchier. Maybe too stretchy! :)
Abby Arner answered:
Hi! I wet blocked my shawl, and I really liked how it turned out. It helped that i-cord edging lay nice, and it really helped my stitches "hold hands" better between color changes. That being said, I did not wet block aggressively. I really only used the pins to help the i-cord edging lay flat and even, and to keep the edges down while it was air drying. I did not too very much stretching at all. I've worn it quite a few times since, and it has held its shape very nicely. This yarn is durable!
