Q&A with dlotter

arachne_knits asked:
I love the hat; it's beautiful! Did you make the maple leaf or was it a pattern you found?
dlotter answered:
Thank You! I tried to find a maple leaf that would fit in the same stitch area as the squirrel but was unsuccessful. This one I charted myself. It took me a few tries before I got something that I liked & then I had to knit it up to be sure. In the final design stage I duplicate stitched over my leaf swatch to fine tune the design & then corrected the chart with the changes I had made. I amazed myself that it came out as well as it did... now I want to try charting pinecones!
Polishdaughter asked:
What a beautiful hat. The colors are so soothing.
dlotter answered:
Thanks! I can't take credit for the colorway, those were selected by the instructor, Amy Detjen. I like them too! I did change the sequence of the colors so that my maple leaves would be red : )

arachne_knits asked:
I think I just saw this hat at Vogue Knitting Live - It's even more beautiful in person.
dlotter answered:
Aw, thanks! Yes, I was there manning (& showing off my hand knits at) the Snohomish Knitters Guild booth. Vogue Live was great fun AND they had a free fitting booth for having your measurements taken & recorded. Perfect for sweater knitting!
