Project

Baby Alpaca Headband

Project Description

What are you most proud of? As always the finished accomplishment and above all else - my granddaughter's joy! Color, yarn and button were her choice contributions. What advice would you give someone starting this project? This project was fast -- a nicely finished product with endless adornment possibility to meet anyone's creative abilities while at the same time mastering some great techniques. I have always liked using double pointed needles because they are such a conundrum and I love the challenge to master but circular needles are certainly a wonder this side of heaven!!

What you will need

  • Rowan 'Alpaca Colour' 100% Baby Alpaca
  • Dk weight
  • 131 yds/50gr --super soft. I used one strand each together of a blue gray and a green
  • blue with hint of the gray using 16 gr of each for the total headband. I was afraid I would not have enough yarn using one color. I do have plenty to make another in each color separately. Needles were 8 and 9. I did not want an overly large band since this was being gifted to my 4 yr old granddaughter. I used different small size double pointed needles for the flower using stash yarns.

Sass P Rilly asked:
Love this combination-- the flowers with the dragonfly button is just perfect! I bet your Grandaughter loved it!
jollyjeanne@yahoo.com answered:
Thank you. Yes, she loves it!! It is rather funny when a 4 yr. insists on keeping the head band in her special place!!! :-))) I am deeply moved by her appreciation of all things hand made.
kbodner asked:
I love your headband!!! I am curious as to how many stitches you cast on to make this?
jollyjeanne@yahoo.com answered:
Thank you for saying so..... it is super soft...I did the pattern exactly as the class pattern called for but used smaller needles and I think it also helped a bit that my yarn although doubled was a bit thinner due to a bit more yardage/gm so the band circumference was a bit smaller. If the yarn was chunkier, it would have taken up more space and been larger. Does that make sense?
