This is my first hooded scarf pattern and I really like the way it turned out. It is perfect for our windy cold winters here in Central New York. I wanted a hood that was close to the head and framed the face, so I came up with this sweet cable design. For this pattern, you will need to know the knit stitch and purl stitch. The top seam is worked in the Kitchener Stitch for a seamless edge. The cables in the scarf use a cable needle free technique and the cables on the hood are made using the traditional method. The scarf portion consists of 4 repeating rows and the hood portion is 8 repeating rows. It is recommended that you keep track of each row by using a row counter. Two strands of yarn are held together while knitting for a bulky result. Sizing can be altered by using different weight yarn and changing the size of the knitting needles. Following the pattern below will create a hooded scarf that measures approximately 4.5 inches wide and 70 inches long and the hood measures 11 inches from scarf edge to top of head. I've been knitting all my life and currently spend most of my waking hours thinking about new ways to knit classic accessories. I love to spin my own yarn, learn new knitting techniques and get creative with felted wool.
