A late season bloomer. The Winter Tulip rears it's beautiful head, demanding to be noticed! The deep, gorgeous bright poppy colored wool simply pops amidst the crisp, white snow. Like a late bloom bursting from the frozen ground. You will definitely stand out when wearing a winter tulip! These mittens feature a unique construction for the cuff that creates two petal shaped flaps mimicking nature's artistic tulip. Knit with less than (2) Hanks of 1 Akasha Zeropoint Colorworks 1AZC TTS 66 Hand dyed Thick and Thin Slub Yarn, a gorgeous and lofty fine micron merino wool. Knit in a dense gauge to give a felted look and a nice warm, thick fabric for the winter cold. Pattern only takes up approximately 85 yrds, so you will have some wool leftover for a simple headband, baby mittens or a cute crocheted flower. But I think these mittens would be even more soft and warm if you added thrums with the remainder of your second skein! Simply weigh your skeins after winding into balls. And be sure to reserve at least 85 yrds for the mittens and the rest can be cut into thrums. Please do post pics and project notes if this is something you end up trying. :) Pattern is written to fit a standard adult sized hand of between 7" and 8.5" wide. If you have extra small hands, or would like to make these for a child, they can be felted. You can also simply omit a few stitches from the cast on. While they Play
I am a self taught pattern designer and mom of three children. They're a wild bunch but I keep myself sane by creating the lovely designs that are forever swirling around inside my head...while they play! My design style reads romantic and at times vintage and whimsical. I am getting to do what I love every single day and hope that knitting and crochet never ever goes away!
