Tulip Tree is a top-down triangular lace shawl knit in fingering weight yarn and can be completed using just one skein of most sock yarns. Designed to use a bit more substantial yarn to keep the spring chill at bay, it will work up much quicker than a traditional lace shawl and while being a bit less delicate will look just as impressive! Inspiration for this shawl came on one of my outdoor excursions. While hiking the Appalachian Trail on an April morning, leaving from a valley lush with the green of spring, it was hard to ignore that the higher the trail climbed, the less green it got and higher up trees and branches had fewer and fewer leaves, some not having put forth any growth at all. The shawl depicts the tulip tree as it starts to burst into life in early spring. Starting with the leaves, the unopened buds higher up and finally the border representing the highest branches with the flowers in all their splendor! Note: This Pattern is available charted only Most of the pattern is plain purl rows on the wrong side, but there are 2 rows that are 'true lace' where a simple pattern is worked on the wrong side as well. I am originally from Switzerland, but live in the US since ‘99. I have been knitting since I was about five years old and I mostly make my own designs and patterns. I started designing my own sweaters and accessories at an early age, as that was just the way sweaters where done. Only later did I transition to indulging in the luxury of ready-made patterns. I used to design and make mostly sweaters and other cold weather favs, (I did come from a snowy place, after all) but have fallen head over heels for lace shawls and have not looked back since! You can see more of my designs under OwlCat Designs on Ravelry. Thanks for your interest in my patterns and I hope you enjoy knitting the designs as much as I did making them for you! :)
