If socks are your thing, these simple smocked socks (say that five times fast) will be at the top of your queue. The Tightrope Socks are kinda like their namesake - while it's best to clear your mind and don't look down!, you still need to pay attention! Which is to say, when I found myself being lulled by the peacefulness of 2x2 ribbing, I'd occasionally wake up to find I'd forgotten a round of smocking and have to rip back. Beginner and experienced sock knitters alike will be walking the fine line between easy-peasy and pay-attention with this project! BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Knit in the round, short rows, heel flap, reading charts GAUGE 36 stitches and 42 rows = 4 inches in Stockinette Stitch SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS 61/2 " (7", 71/2 ") circumference unstretched

Supplies Needed

  • 390 - 460 yards (357 - 421 m) fingering weight yarn (show in The Wool Dispensary Useful Stimulant in Circus Popcorn)
  • US 1 - 2.25 mm DPNs

I learned to knit the worst way there is - from a book! And not even a good book, a really crappy one (Knitting for Dummies)! For some reason I stuck with it, and now I'm thoroughly addicted. I’ve been a licensed massage therapist, a yarn dyer for a small hand-dyed yarn company, and spent many years as an office slave. As previously noted, I compulsively knit, design and spin in my free time. If I’m not doing any of the above, you can find me playing music in the band Shalloboi, in which I sing and play drums.
