PATTERN DETAILS

What do you do during the hottest week of the year? You knit wool socks, of course! These socks were knit during a summer heatwave. The sunny yellow in the yarn combined with the way the spiral pattern fans out like sun rays where the foot ends and the toe of the sock begins reminds me of the sun. Hence the name, Solar Vortex. Though instructions are given to knit these socks cuff down, the pattern is the same whether knit toe up or cuff down. The simple pattern repeat makes this a quick, meditative and relaxing knit. The heel is added after the rest of the sock is finished so the spiral stitch pattern is not interrupted. Instructions are given to knit socks in narrow, medium and wide widths. Foot length is customizable BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY knit, purl, decreases (k2tog, ssk), Kitchener stitch, working in the round GAUGE 8 stitches and 12 rows per 1 inch/ 2.5 centimetres in stockinette stitch SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS Pattern instructions are included for narrow width(7 inch/ 18 centimetre), medium width (8 inch/ 20 centimetre) and wide width (9 inch/ 23 centimetre).
