Pattern Details

This is an Icelandic yoke sweater with a very modern fit. I call it expedition style: the back edge curves down and is longer than the front edge, the body is fitted, the sleeves are very slim and have a thumb hole as well as elbow shaping, the hood is snug to give extra warmth, even when not on your head it makes a protective collar. SMALI (Icelandic for herder, shepderd) is designed for sheep herding in the Icelandic highlands in any weather conditions - or you could just wear it anytime:) Method: Body and sleeves are worked in the round from lower edge to the underarms, and then joined to work yoke in the round. Stranded knitting in yoke. Lower back and elbow shaping is achieved with short rows. Detailed description of "how to" is in the pattern! BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY stranded knitting kntting in the rounds GAUGE 13sts x 19 rows PREFERRED BRAND/YARN Istex pltulopi COLORWAY dark grey, light grey

My mother taught me how to knit when I was little... I think I knitted my first sweater when I was about 12... I used to knit under the table in school when I could get away with it...and I have not stopped knitting since:). I live, knit and spin in Iceland: I am also an architect and designer:) and I rent out holiday cottages here on my farm in Iceland.
