PATTERN DETAILS

This is a great coat for cold weather - consider going up a size if you want it to be roomy enough to wear over another sweater for extra warmth. The stitch pattern is easily memorized, and the sweater works up very quickly. Instructions are given for both a men's and a women's version. Customize it to your liking by working it to match the length of a favorite sweater or coat. The yarn I used works up at a gauge of 3 sts per inch in Stockinette stitch; if you wish to use a different yarn, make sure you find one that will match this gauge. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY knit, purl, slip stitches, pick up stitches, increase, decrease GAUGE 17 sts and 28 rows = 4" (10 cm) in Twisted Ladder Stitch

Recommended with this pattern

  • 775-1850 yards bulky weight yarn in main color (MC); 475-1075 yards bullky weight yarn in color A
  • sizes 10 (6 mm) and 10.5 (6.5 mm) needles
  • 3/4" buttons

At 6' tall, I used to have a hard time finding sweaters with long enough sleeves. So I took up knitting to make my own sweaters.
