Roots is a new twist on a classic ribbed hat design. Knit from the top down, this pattern allows easy customisation for length as the hat can be tried on throughout the knit. Inspired by branching root patterns it features a striking branching rib pattern, stemming from a central point of origin. The use of worsted weight yarn knit at a slightly tighter gauge results in a warm, water resistant fabric, perfect for winter wear, and increases the elasticity of the rib for a snug, warm fit. This hat makes a fantastic gift knit as it can be readily knit over a couple of days, and the soft and luxurious yarn makes for a truly special treat. This hat is a great knit for men, being both well fitting, simple and traditional in style, but the branching rib provides an element of individuality and makes for a fun and interesting knit. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Knit, purl, increasing, knitting in the round. GAUGE 20sts and 28 rows to 10cm/4'' in rib pattern. SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS Sizing in this pattern refers to brim measurement. As the hat is knit from the top down, length adjustments can be made as desired by the knitter. The sample is 33cm/13" in length, however lengths between 20.5cm/8" and 35.5cm/14" are likely to be suitable. Sizes given refer to head circumferences of 46-53cm/18-21" (Small) and 56-64cm/22-25" (Large). Sample is size Large. As the pattern is rib based there is considerable flexibility in the head sizes fitted by either hat size.
