Being a Long Islander for the better part of my life, I have learned to pronounce all sorts of strange town names. Many of these ~ "Hauppauge," "Manhasset," "Speonk," "Patchogue" ~ are derived from the Algonquin, Native Americans who inhabited this area. You learn them fast when you live here. If you can't pronounce them, you're not from The Island. One of these towns is Quogue [kwog] which means "cove" ~ perfect for this light, flowing, crescent shawl.
