I was asked to make a White Sox hat first, so I designed a quick and easy way to knit one with gently curved earflaps that do not curl. I then decided to try to make a plain two colored hat with a pom-pom, a flowered baby girl hat without a pom-pom, and the crazy rockhopper penguin hat just because I love penguins. I offer complete instructions on creating the short-rowed earflaps. You won't believe how easy they are! Instructions are also included for all the other embellishments pictured (except the Sox logo) including how to do a Turkish Cast-On if you decide to do the penguin hat. So...if you are an experienced beginner wanting to learn some new techniques, this is the perfect opportunity. The edging uses single crochet. I am not a crocheter, but even I can single crochet around the edge!! The flower is also crocheted with instructions given. If you are new to crochet, do an Internet search for single, double and half-double crochet. If you don't want to do that, just attach a bow or flower barrette that can be purchased at a craft store!!! These hats make adorable baby gifts or donations to your local hospital's baby nursery. The yarn I recommend is Hobby Lobby's "I Love This Yarn" 100% acrylic (med wt #4). It is very soft and easy to work with. I have been knitting for 60 years and since the grandchildren arrived have been knitting daily. I decided I wanted to create easy predominantly seamless knitting projects because I love knitting in the round, and more important I hate to sew pieces together! I have had many wonderful comments from knitters who have created items from my patterns and like their finished projects, but should you come across a flaw or something that doesn't seem quite right in the instructions, I hope you will contact me! Contact me at with any of your questions or concerns. You are free to sell your finished items, but please give me credit for the pattern. Thank you and happy knitting!
