PATTERN DETAILS

Nadira means "rare" or "precious" in Persian, two words that aptly describe the wonder that is lace knitting. I have always loved Persian carpets, particularly the more minimalist designs where diamonds and other simplified geometric and fanciful shapes abound. Because I used the structure of these carpets as an inspiration for this design, I thought it fitting that it should have a beautiful Persian name. Nadira is a lace top-down triangular shawl that was designed to be knitted with lace weight yarn, although fingering weight would certainly be appropriate to use as well. Nadira is offered as a comprehensive 20-page charted pattern with large, easy-to-read charts and very detailed instructions on how to use them. Even knitters who have not previously used charts should find these user-friendly and simple to comprehend. My charts have made believers out of many knitters who were vehemently anti-chart before using mine. But if you have any questions or comments, pattern support is my pleasure and is always available. But what is really different about this pattern is that it has an extra section after the main charts called "Design Your Own Shawl," where you can knit the various motifs found in the main body of the shawl in whatever order you like in order to customize the design and size of your shawl. There is an option to knit the entire body in stockinette as well. The cool thing is that you can knit the shawl several times and it will look different each time! Also included are detailed blocking instructions. Hi! I am a former professional guitarist who at least for now am very grateful to be designing full time. I made all my clothes and jewelry as a hippie girl many years ago, and had a little cottage industry of selling my handcrafts to friends in high school. I later turned to music and put down all the needles and hooks and soldering guns and whatnot for over 30 years. I picked up knitting again a few years ago, but really kicked into gear in earnest June 2008 when I used it as a quit smoking aid. And then I discovered lace and shawls.... and the rest is history, as they say.
