The Mt. St. Helens scarf is soft and beautiful yet rugged and unpredictable just like the volcano itself. It is lighter than air Shibui Silk Cloud yarn anchored by streams of lava-like Linen. It is versatile to wear, looking as good with a pair of jeans as it does with a silk blouse and suit. Wear it long or wrap it two or three times for a fluffy cowl. This is a fun, quick knit and a great way to use up some stash. This scarf is designed after Mt. St. Helens, an active volcano in southwest Washington that erupted in 1980, spewing soft ash and altering the terrain for miles as the hot, molten lava carved out new gullies and deep ravines. Its silhouette against the skyline now reflects a deep crater from the eruption. St. Helens remains a beautiful snow covered peak for most of the year but continues to periodically send out plumes of fluffy clouds, steam and ash.
