I’ve always loved being crafty, but never imagined I could be lucky enough to do it for a living! Although I had knit on and off throughout most of my life, it was learning to knit lace in 2005 that kindled my true passion for fiber and needles. I began making shawl pins to hold my lovely new creations securely on my shoulders. When the owner of my local yarn store wanted some to sell, I founded Designs by Romi. Things grew from there, and I started designing knitted items, as well: first knitted jewelry and then lace. My book New Lace Knitting was published by Interweave in late 2015, and contains 19 classic designs for every day and into the evening. My work has appeared in numerous publications, among them Knitty, Knitscene, Interweave Knits, Twist Collective, Vogue Knitting Magazine, and in several books. In 2010, I found a Ravelry group that had set a goal of knitting 10 shawls in 2010 and I got the crazy idea that I wanted to design and knit 10 shawls. I had already done three that year and had seven left to do. My first 7 Small Shawls eBook subscription collection was born! I am currently finishing up my fifth. My library of designs can be seen on ravelry.com. These days I’m busy teaching and designing knitwear. I owe the Internet knitting community a huge debt of gratitude for making it possible for me to fondle yarn, fiber and beads incessantly and not feel guilty about it. :)
