I found Marrowstone Island while exploring Washington State on vacation. The beach at Fort Flagler State Park is like none I have seen on the East Coast. It is covered in smooth sea stones and timber; picture driftwood on steroids. Stunning and breathtaking are the effects of the ocean's tides on whole trees. The lace on this shawl reminds me of the beach pebbles and rocks and their simple beauty. This one-skein project won't seem like it goes on forever since every row gets shorter and faster! Pair the pattern with a special hand-dyed yarn in either variegated or solid and the yarn will shine in the stockinette body of the shawl. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY You should know how to knit, purl and yarn over to complete this pattern. Learn new skills like reading charts and knitting short rows. GAUGE 16 sts and 32 rows over 4 inches in stockinette stitch SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS 50-68 inches across and 12 inches deep at center

I started knitting in college though I recall my grandmother trying to teach me crochet at a much younger age. It wasn't until many years later, at my young children's urging, that I took the needles out to teach them to knit. And I haven't stopped since!
