Mallard cowl pattern by Katya Frankel from Head to Toe: Kids' Knit Accessories. Scan the surface of any pond in England, and you are bound to spot the iridescent green head of a mallard duck. The Deep Sea colorway of Manos reminded me of that unmistakable, happy head bobbing in and out of the water in the spring. Worked from the bottom up with gentle shaping to follow body contour, the cowl splits at the lower end to prevent it from riding up and is finished with a perpendicular band at the top. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Knit, purl, short rows and working in the round. GAUGE 13 sts and 32 rnds = 4 in / 10cm in garter stitch. SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS Finished circumference 171/4 (193/4) in / 44 (50) cm at the top; finished height 51/2 (6) in / 14 (15) cm at the narrowest point. Shown in size 171/4 in.
