This children's cowl is knitted in one-piece, using both circular (for the neck piece) and two needles for the leaves. I used Debbie Bliss Blue Faced Leicester Aran, but other Aran (10ply) wools would work well. It takes approximately 125g of wool. The neck section has a simple cable stitch. The cowl pulls on very easily, and is very cosy. I think most children would love it, and you could posh it up by sewing a bead on the tip of each leaf. I was inspired by the beautiful flower fairy books of Cicely Mary Barker. I am working on an adult version, which will appear soon. The inspiration for my knitting patterns often comes from nature. I love little knitting projects, and try my hardest to be realistic with my plant and animal designs. Often my projects start from something very personal: my own house or my husband's first car. Then I develop them into something that I think will be appealing. I live on the outskirts of London, and work part-time at a local school. My own children are always doing something creative. At school I love the days when we get really messy.
