I love knitting small insects, and always try to make them looks as realistic as possible, and not too cutesy. But I think my little ladybirds are cute in their own way. Did you know that a group of ladybirds are called a "loveliness"? My pattern is knitted on two needles and flat. There are only two pieces, and just a little bit of embroidery to add the spots and line up the middle. I have included a template for the legs, although these are optional, and I think she is equally nice with or without legs. For some extra guidance on how to sew a french knot for the spots you can see a page on my blog I hope you enjoy making some ladybirds! BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Knitting and Embroidery SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS Ladybird is approx 3cm long

The inspiration for my knitting patterns often comes from nature. I love little knitting projects, and try my hardest to be realistic with my plant and animal designs. Often my projects start from something very personal: my own house or my husband's first car. Then I develop them into something that I think will be appealing. I live on the outskirts of London, and work part-time at a local school. My own children are always doing something creative. At school I love the days when we get really messy.
