This is a top-down, semi-circular shawl. An innovative, but easy, double-knit edge is incorporated as you knit, so other than darning in ends, there is practically no finishing at all. BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY knit slip stitches cdd yo ssk k2tog Instructions for Judy's Magic Cast On. (linked in the pattern) Instructions for Jeny's Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off. (linked in the pattern) GAUGE 14 stitches and 28 rows in 4 inches. SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS My final size was 56" across and 24" deep. More or fewer rows could be worked to change the size, and the shawl could be made in almost any yarn. With that said, make sure you use a needle size at least one or two sizes larger than you normally would for the yarn. Using larger needles allows garter stitch to open up slightly and gives the shawl more drape. SUGGESTED YARN 700 yards of Worsted weight PREFERRED BRAND/YARN any COLORWAY any!

Supplies Needed

  • Worsted-weight yarn, between 500 and 700 yards. My original sample was knit in my own handspun, testers used commercial yarns.
  • #10 (6.0 mm) needles, any type you like, plus a spare double-pointed needle of the same size, for the cast on.
  • Red Heart Super Saver was used for one test, and it looked very nice, indeed.
