Enjoy the elegant simplicity of these two designs. There are two patterns which have different depths and are the same circumference. Size 10 circular needles in a 32" length. Self-striping yarns are recommended. Large: 9" deep x 46" in circumference. Small: 4 1/2" deep x 46" in circumference. Note: You may use size 9 needles as well for a tighter gauge and smaller circumference. Everything's OK Cowls I find that one of the most comforting things to do while waiting is to knit something. It cushions the minutes and hours while you wait for surgery and test results, while you wait for the doctor, while you wait to find out how today will change your life... I was sitting and knitting with my dear friend while her husband was in a very delicate surgery. There was a chance he had cancer. There was a chance he would experience partial facial paralysis if the surgery didn't go just perfectly. There was a chance the news wouldn't be good. So I sat with her and we knit. We glanced at the surgery schedule, but didn't talk about the worry we were feeling as the minutes and hours went by. We kept track of his name on the monitor and we knit. Her daughter joined us while we waited and knit. My friend finished the larger cowl and modeled it for me. It was a lengthy surgery, but knitting made the time go by less painfully. Then the surgeon came into the room. Everything was ok. It was the best possible scenario and he was going to be just fine! So, we wrote the pattern and named the cowls for the happy outcome of the day - Everything's OK. Knitting was more than a pastime that day. I hope you enjoy the patterns! Thanks for your interest. Self-striping yarn such as: Mochi Plus, Mendocino, Liberty Wool, Kuyeron and Gina are also recommended. Hi! I'm Diane L. Augustin and I am Yarn Happy - Bead Happy I teach knitting, crocheting and Tunisian crochet classes at several yarn shops and art centers in the Minneapolis/St. Paul/St. Croix Valley area. One of my passions is knitting and crocheting with beads. I also manage the daily activities and teach classes at ThunderWillow Community Arts in Hudson, WI. I have classes at Ramsay County and Hudson libraries, as well as through Hudson Community Education. I often conduct workshops and demonstrations at special events and festivals in the area. I have been teaching professionally for seven years. My background as a graphic artist in the publishing industry facilitates my ability to design, write, produce and publish my patterns. I am also the photographer. I continuously develop new designs, offering them as classes, with a focus on teaching techniques. I learned to knit continental or combination style at seven years old from my grandmother, who had to teach me in order to get her own knitting back from me! I live in western WI, just outside of Hudson, with my husband, Lance and the boss of the household, Thomas Edison, our stray kitty who came to stay. I am Yarn Happy Bead Happy! I hope my designs will become your favorites. I am Yarn Happy Bead Happy! My pattern was published in the newly released book, [North Shore Knits][2], produced by [Three Irish Girls][3].
