PATTERN DETAILS

Confession: I have never been able to master the basic crocheted ripple pattern that everyone else seems to fly through with such ease and that has always bothered me. This afghan is the lemonade made from the lemons of so many failed crochet ripple afghan attempts. The reason it is called a Weekender Afghan, is because it can be made in a weekend. With lofty, super bulky yarn and large needles, it does work up quickly which is a good thing when you need an impressive hand-made gift and you are short on time. The pattern is very easy to follow with a simple 4-row repeat. In fact, 3 of the 4 rows are either knit across or purl across. I made the sample in the pictures as a gift, but I'm so happy with it that I'm thinking of making one for each of my 3 children, keeping the marble, but using a different second color for each. I think the coordinating afghans would look very nice on a ladder-style quilt rack in our living room. I have been crafting since I was a little girl, partly because I don't like to just sit still and do nothing! I love the feeling of finishing a project, and I love the reaction when I give a special handmade gift to one of my children or a friend. There is something very special about making something that no one else has. If you have tried out any of my patterns, the first thing you probably noticed is that they are EASY! Why? While I love a good challenge as much as the next girl, I also like to knit and crochet to unwind after a long stressful day at the office. I often (always) work on my projects while watching TV or a movie or while spending time with my three children who like to talk... sometimes at a very fast pace and all at once. :) An easy pattern is a requirement for me. I hate frogging or as I call it un-knitting. I've made it a bit of a mission to create patterns that look difficult and impressive but actually aren't. I really hope that you enjoy making them as much as I did.
