What girl doesn't love diamonds? I know I do! And since I can't afford real diamonds, I decided to make some of my own! I wanted a large headband to be able to wear this winter that would hold back my massive amounts of hair, but would also keep my ears nice and warm. I used double stranded yarn to make it extra thick and cozy and also sturdy enough to hold my hair up without stretching out of shape. The crochet border gives it a nice clean edge that doesn't curl, like normal Stockinette tends to do. It should be noted though, that this pattern uses both crochet and knitting skills to complete headband as pictured. The crochet border could be omitted, but the headband would curl in on itself. I used a crochet cast on, so that the cast on would match the bind off, then added the border as an afterthought. This makes the type of cast on less important, so long as it is flexible enough to crochet a border into. Omitting the border and changing type of cast on would make this an exclusively knit pattern for those out there who don't crochet. My granny taught me the basics of crochet when I was 5 & I have learned the rest on my own, mostly through books. I also taught myself how to knit a few years ago. And I taught a crochet class for awhile until I had my youngest son. I would love to open my own yarn store someday, as our closet one is about 50 miles away. I have been a happy yarn crafter for over 20 years! :)
