I am in love with this hat! In a lightweight, single-ply wool, the drape is fabulous, and it can be worn winter, spring, fall, or even on summer nights. Experiment with contrasting, variegated colorways to make your stripes blend or pop. First time knitting cables? This is the perfect project to practice cabling without getting in over your head (eek, what a pun!). BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY Knitting in the round Picking up stitches Cables Grafting GAUGE 24 sts = 4 inches in stockinette stitch SUGGESTED YARN 250 yards of Sport weight PREFERRED BRAND/YARN Malabrigo Rastita

Recommended with this pattern

  • US #4/3.5mm (or size to get gauge) for working in the round as well as working flat (either 16" circular, or set of double pointed, or two circulars, or one long circular for magic loop).
  • Stitch marker
  • Tapestry needle

I have been knitting for a long time (since I was about 7!) and crocheting even longer -- lots of crafting, generally, as long as I can remember. For the past 15 years or so, my focus has been on knitting. I have been teaching knitting for about 5 years. I am a CYCA Certified Knitting Instructor. I teach a variety of knitting classes at Twisted in Portland, OR, where I get to spend my time with lots of wonderful knitters! I taught at the Black Sheep Gathering in Eugene, OR in 2011 and at Sock Summit 2011 in Portland, OR. I am always interested in trying out new forums to teach classes. I also teach private lessons for individuals or small groups. When I’m not knitting, I am an attorney practicing intellectual property law - that’s trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, etc., everything except writing patents. I work on both transactional and litigation matters related to intellectual property.
