PATTERN DETAILS

In late May on the main street of my little city (Steamboat Springs, Colorado), the crabapple trees burst into bloom, declaring the arrival of warm weather. The sweet pink and white blossoms cheer us and then, when they fade, the petals fall like a spring snow, forming drifts as the local shopkeepers sweep them from the sidewalk. I created this piece as an introduction to lace knitting and beaded knitting, and this simple pattern eases you into both of these techniques. There's nothing to be afraid of here. You can do this! I began designing knitting patterns as I started teaching knitting back in 2010 since I wanted to provide my students with simple patterns to push their skills. As I continued to design, inspiration caught me up in its whirlwind and I began playing with color and patterns. However, my continuing goal is to create patterns which inspire and teach new techniques to beginning and intermediate knitters. Recently, I joined with a partnership to run our local yarn shop and part of that was creating a space to display and sell local handmade fiber art. Inspired by the pieces coming into the shop, I started creating functional pieces of art.
