Clarinet is inspired by its namesake, the Clarinet. It is a single reed woodwind and is dear to me because it was what I played when in school. This sock is thigh high (approx 22 inches tall) and available in 3 sizes. This sock is worked cuff down and uses color work using intarsia, embossing, bobbles and eyelets to achieve the appearance of a clarinet. There is a special stitch, Embossing, it is explained in the pattern. Materials: Black fingering and Silver fingering Notions: US2 (3.0 mm) Or needle needed to obtain gauge Bobbin(s) to hold second color (optional) Stitch marker Gauge: 8sts and 12 rounds =1 inch in Stockinette Notes: Stitch counts are shown as sm(med, lg). Also, due to differences in foot/leg/thigh measurements, you may find you need to work a small thigh (top of the clarinet) but a medium leg and foot, or another combination to get the best fit possible for you. The Thumb Key and Hole chart is worked at the back of the sock, while Upper Joint and Lower Joint charts are the front of the sock. Small: Thigh: 10 in unstretched and 16.5 in super stretched Knee: 7 in unstretched and 12 in super stretched Even when tempted to just use a vertical line bobbin for a horizontal line, don't do it! Just start a new bobbin. Wherever I did that, it pulls significantly and breaks the nice vertical lines by pulling sideways and making a squiggle. You won't know it until you put the sock on! When doing the key holes... you will need to do 1 of 2 things... either cut the yarn so your hole is clear and nice, or embroider around the hole after the sock is done to have a nice neat hole. For a shorter sock, makre the "Mouth Piece" and "Barrel" shorter. I am a working mom of 2 boys. I am a crocheter, knitter, spinner, cross stitcher, latch hooker, stitch marker maker, and I am learning embroidery all in what little spare time I have. I design to bring in some extra money in the hopes that it will become more than just a side thing.
