PATTERN DETAILS

So much of my inspiration comes from creatures in the ocean. Their unique shapes, colours, and textures never cease to enchant me. C. cardissa, commonly known as the heart cockle, sparked me to design an heart shaped shawl. C.cardissa is a bivalve mollusc that lives mainly under algae and sand in reef flats exposed to the sun. It can be variegated in colour and has a fluted edge. This shawl is good for variegated or solid colour yarns...a nice way to clear up some of your stash, while completing an easy breezy knit on the beach...with a bit of lace trim. And, if you have additional yarn you can add a ruffled edge. Recommended is sport weight yarn on large needles. And, if you have not read it before, here it is again: "I am a loose knitter living with Loose Knitting Syndrome, or LKS, if you are a tighter to regular tension knitter please adjust needle size accordingly, thank you." The size of your shawl grows with your needle size. In the ongoing trend of late, this is a shawl with choices. The body is knit in stockinette or garter and then you move to the next section with 2 choices and the 3 and 4th sections each with 3 choices! The lace is in charts only. yarn: ~ 150-200 yards colour A, 150 colour B, 50-100 colour C BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY a familiarity with lace knitting is helpful GAUGE 18 stitches and 18 rows = 4 inches in garter st, unblocked SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS 26" 52" SUGGESTED YARN 600 yards of Sport weight PREFERRED BRAND/YARN any sport weight yarn in complimentary colours
