Pattern Details

I designed this blanket specifically for bulky yarn, where very few stitches are needed for a pattern repeat. Super Bulky yarn is trending at the moment, so here is a classic, revamped for big yarn! Baby Blocks are a favourite pattern for little ones, and this blanket is fun, quick and easy to knit. The pattern is completely reversible, it looks exactly the same on both sides. This pattern is for a square receiving size blanket, but I have included instructions for enlarging it to any size, square or rectangle, that you want. Materials( for the 26" or 66 cm square blanket): 400 g Super Chunky Yarn amounts will vary, depending on your yarn choice, if in doubt get an extra ball, and if you plan a larger blanket, get more accordingly. I used Stylecraft Super Chunky Special XL Knitting needles: 10 mm or US 15 circulars, at least 80 cm or 32 " long, to accommodate the stitches. You can use straight needles, but it will be a real workout for your wrists and arms. 2 stitch markers (or use waste yarn) BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY knit purl GAUGE 9 sts and 12 rows make 10 cm or 4" square, using stockinette stitch SIZING / FINISHED MEASUREMENTS 26 " or 66 cm square, but instructions include advice on making any desired size SUGGESTED YARN 300 yards of Bulky weight PREFERRED BRAND/YARN Stylecraft Super Chunky Special XL, King Cole Big Value Super Chunky, Lana Grossa Ragazza Lei, Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick COLORWAY natural tones of your choice

I am a fashion/ textile designer and mother of six children. Over time I have designed and knitted as well as sewn hundreds of items of baby and childrens clothing. I am a designer specializing in innovative and practical children's wear that is timeless and understated. Sewing, knitting and designing for babies and children gives me special joy and freedom to be playful, nostalgic and quirky. I prefer natural yarns and fabrics as these don't just feel and look good, they also perform very well when used for children's garments. My belief is that children's wear should be fun, practical and comfortable as well as easy to care for. I am a highly creative person and there are a lot of artists, designers as well as dressmakers in my family and my great grandfather who was as a sewing machine engineer... Nothing quite compares with making something for your little one yourself. I encourage everyone with the urge to have a go. It's fun and a lot easier than you think! One of my daughters knitted a very simple blanket for her baby brother when she was 10 years old. It is by no means perfect but it has become a very special prized possession that both her and her brother will cherish for years to come. Empower yourself and have a go!
